Kuwait Prepares to Tender Major Gas Pipeline Project

September 2024 — Kuwait is gearing up for a significant pipeline development as the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) plans to issue a tender for a new gas and condensate pipeline project in northern Kuwait. This move is part of the country’s broader strategy to expand its oil and gas infrastructure and boost production capacity.

The project, estimated to cost around $25.4 million, will involve the design, construction, and one-year operation and maintenance of a new pipeline system. The pipeline is intended to support Kuwait’s growing demand for natural gas, both domestically and in international markets. It will facilitate the transport of gas from production fields in the north to refineries and export terminals(Meed).

Strategic Importance

This new pipeline project aligns with KOC’s long-term vision to increase the capacity and efficiency of Kuwait’s gas infrastructure. With the country aiming to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce its dependence on oil, natural gas is becoming an increasingly vital component of Kuwait’s energy strategy(KuwaitTimes ).

The new tender is also seen as part of Kuwait’s commitment to improving its environmental standards, with the pipeline project expected to integrate advanced technologies for emission control and energy efficiency(TimesKuwait).

The tender for the gas pipeline project is expected to attract significant interest from international contractors, as Kuwait continues to invest heavily in its oil and gas infrastructure. This project will not only enhance the country’s gas production capabilities but also play a crucial role in supporting its energy needs in the coming years. The tender is expected to be finalized by mid-October(Meed).
