What are pipeline projects deliverables?

For any Pipeline Project, the Pipeline Discipline is responsible for producing essential deliverables. These include engineering drawings (comprising diagrams, sketches, etc.) and technical documents (such as site visit reports, technical study reports, material specifications and requisitions, scope of works, test plans, etc.).

The design and engineering stage of the pipeline can be fragmented broadly into four major phases:

  • Conceptualization
    • Establishment of preliminary requirements
    • Identification of inlet location and outlet location
    • Evaluation of alternatives
    • Finalization of the concept
  • Feasibility Study
    • Develop study and preliminary selection of pipeline route
    • Development of schematic based on pipeline facilities, and intermediate stations
    • Route engineering and route reconnaissance by walking along the pipeline route
    • Study alternate routes
    • Development of equipment layout
    • Preliminary wall thickness for pipeline
    • Stress Analysis
    • Hydraulic studies and optimization
    • Establishment of tentative project cost
    • Project Implementation scheme
    • Environmental Impact Assessment & Risk analysis if required
    • Complete MTO of Pipeline System including stations
  • Basic Engineering
    • Route finalization – surveys and investigations
    • Process Design & Pipeline Sizing
    • Optimization Studies
    • Preparation of basic engineering design basis
    • Preliminary selection of pipes parameters such as wall thickness, material & grade, corrosion protection and type of coating requirement
    • Preparation of route maps, layouts, location plan, indicative scope drawings,
    • Development of construction schedule
  • Detailed engineering
    • Preparation of engineering design basis
    • Route engineering:
      • Wall thickness analysis
      • On-bottom stability
      • Free span analysis
      • Global Buckling analysis
      • Pipeline expansion analysis
      • Pipeline crossing analysis
    • Preparation of job specification and job standards
    • Engineering for the procurement of long lead items such as:
      • Line pipes and coatings
      • Scraper traps
      • Valves
      • Insulating joints
      • Long radius bends
      • Tees
      • Flanges and fittings
    • Preparation of installation tender
    • Preparation of drawings for construction such as:
      • Alignment Sheets
      • Overall Field layout
      • Riser location drawings
      • Clamps drawings
      • Pipeline crossing drawings
      • Platform approach drawings

The following will highlight the various types of reports, drawings, scope of works, and material requisitions:
